Five Minute Friday: Remember

I remember when I used to sleep in past 6:30 a.m. and stroll the farmer's market on Saturdays.

I remember when I used to eat Bobby Salazar's salsa and chips for dinner and stay up late reading novels or painting or listening to jazz albums. I remember when my closet was full of dancing clothes instead of shirts and jeans stained by oily fingers.

I remember when we used to light candles and have fancy dinner parties on lazy summer nights. I remember when we hosted Cooking Club and all the adults could sit at the table and sip wine or stay late to play board games.

Sometimes I'm tempted to long for "the good old days." The quiet. The I-can-do-whatever-I-want with my time and money days. I'm tempted.

But then I remember...

I remember sitting in front of the ocean for hours, waves crashing, sun setting a symphony of colors. I would write poetry and breathe and dream.

I would dream about being married to my best friend. I would dream about days like today when honey-sticky kisses greet me in the morning and little fingers grasp my hand. I would dream about traveling the world and making a difference.

And now I remember that this journey is about living fully right where you are.

I hopped over here from Lisa Jo's. This post is beautiful. I am a mom of 2 kids myself. And when I get together with single friends, I sometimes get nostalgic or jealous, thinking about what it would be like to have the freedom to do what they do. But then I remember how much I love this life, with all its ups and downs. I love your last line- remembering to live fully, right where we are. So important.

I relate to so much of your post today. I often will be wistful and remember the times when I was younger, less tied down. And I am so grateful to have had those days. And I am just as grateful to have my days now as a mother. Thanks again for a beautiful post. I came here through Lisa Jo's.

Living fully right where I am...such a beautiful reminder and something I desire for my life. Sometimes the simplest things in daily life bring the most joy...and cause us to reflect on the blessings God gives to us. :) Thank you for this today...beautiful post! Blessings!
