Birthdays by the Beach

This weekend we took a road trip down to L.A. to hang out with Paul, Michelle and Cynthia and celebrate Michelle's birthday. They planned a trip to Newport Beach. We always go to a stretch of sand tucked between some of the beach houses where there aren't big crowds and we can snag free parking. Meilani and Giada had such fun dancing together in the sand, building castles with their cousin and dipping their toes in the cold ocean spray.
Our Giada girl loves the sand. Like most 1-year-olds, she loves to squish it between her fingers, pack it and pour it from pails and even eat it. Yes, our little lovely does indeed love the texture and would take handful after handful of sand - much to mama's chagrin!

Meilani and her cousin Cynthia are inseperable when we visit. Here they are buried in sand to their waists. Such fun! Such fun to try to scrape off all the sand before piling back into the car...

Uncle Paul is such a workaholic. He was even working hard on the beach!
Auntie Michelle requested our famous Holiday Mint Trifle for her birthday dessert. After a quick run to Trader Joe's for ingredients, we hooked it up for her. The girls loved singing the "Happy Birthday" song and helping her open her gifts.

Easter Resurrection-inspired activities

Easter is one of the most important holidays in our faith. It's been a joy to teach our girls about their Christian heritage. We celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas and the resurrection of Christ at Easter time. This year we were very intentional about reading the parts of the Easter story in the Bible and talking through the events with Meilani. She likes to ask lots of insightful questions.

This year we were invited to an Egg-Decorating party at our friends, the Coombs' house. They had a contest for the best decorated egg.

Meilani's fabulous egg. Second place for the little kids' division.

Giada was more interested in eating the eggs than she was in decorating them.

Who says Easter has to be filled with junk? We found these great organic jelly beans, lollipops and Annie's bunnies at Whole Foods. Special treats for Meilani girl...

Nama Chris loves to give the girls baskets full of special treats and games.
Meilani shows off her book about Christ's resurrection and her new visor and activities from Nana and Papa.

Gilmores share the journey of life with Life Group

We are so blessed to journey through this season of life with a great group of friends. We meet every other week for dinner and prayer time. We started out as young married couples and now we have exploded into families with lots of kids. Allison caught this fabulous photo with (gasp!) everyone smiling and looking at the camera.
